🌿 Chakra One: Root Chakra (Muladhara)

Safety • Stability • Belonging

The Root Chakra is our foundation. Located at the base of the spine, Muladhara governs our sense of safety, security, and connection to the physical world. When balanced, we feel grounded, supported, and steady. When imbalanced, we may feel anxious, unrooted, or stuck in survival mode.

Signs of Imbalance

Excess / Overactive Root

• Rigidity or resistance to change
• Overworking or hyper-focus on money/security
• Hoarding or scarcity mindset
• Physical tension in hips, legs, or lower back

Depleted / Underactive Root

• Anxiety or constant worry
• Feeling ungrounded or “spacey”
• Financial fear
• Cold hands and feet
• Disconnection from the body

Movements to Balance the Root Chakra

• Mountain Pose (Tadasana) – grounding through the feet
• Malasana (Yogi Squat) – reconnecting to earth energy
• Warrior I & II – building strength and stability
• Slow Sun Salutations with focus on the feet
• Long-held Forward Folds

Encourage slow, steady transitions. The Root Chakra loves rhythm and repetition.

Breathwork

• Deep Belly Breathing (hand on lower abdomen)
• Box Breath (4-4-4-4) for nervous system regulation
• Slow nasal breathing while visualizing roots growing from the feet into the earth
